FAQ FOR STUDENTS

Start with our free career test. It is an easy-to-use questionnaire that will identify your interests and occupational personality to suggest potential study and career options for you. Even if the suggested options do not meet your wants and needs, at least you will know what to education and career choices to avoid.

Depends. Some tertiary and technical institutions accept students directly after O/Ls for certain courses. You need to identify these courses and how they will support your career development. If you plan to study abroad then instead of A/Ls you could also consider other entrance exams specific to various countries eg: SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test), IB (International Baccalaureate) etc. To get a more comprehensive understanding, engage with a career advisor.

The subjects you study in school will be a strong determinant as to what job or higher studies you can do after leaving school. Talk to our career advisor to understand what subjects to study based on your interests and how your subject choices will shape your future career direction.

Lots of students face the problem of what to do next. “Should I go for university, find a job or take a gap year?” is a very common question. Don’t worry. Before you make an education or career choice get the right information. First, find out what you are like and what you could do. Your personality can shape your career. Our free career test will help you understand your personality and help you understand the type of jobs/study areas that are right for you. Second, talk to people. Understand what options are available to you. Parents, teachers, working professionals and career advisors are good people to turn to. CareerMe advisors can help you better understand your options and provide comprehensive information on what your choice will mean to you. For example: If you want to be a medical doctor in Sri Lanka, learn what the daily work life of a doctor is like, what different types of medical specialties are there, how many years of study is required, how much you can earn, can you work abroad and what are your job prospects? It is important to research these questions so you can make smart decisions. Talk to an advisor.

Attending university is a great option for expanding your qualifications and better positioning yourself in the job market. However, you should first consider the career you wish to pursue, so you can select a useful degree that will support your career development. Additionally, certain careers don’t necessarily require university degrees and allow you to start directly after A/Ls through on-the job learning. Our career advisors can help you identify the best education pathways that support your career choice.

If you are committed to going abroad for your higher studies, start planning early on key issues such as required exams, financing, university application checklists, and deadlines. Pay particular attention to deadlines, if you wish to start university directly after your A/Ls or O/Ls and not take a gap year. The application process takes several months so if for example you wish to enroll for the September 2018 intake of a US university you would need to apply by end of 2017. Identifying your education options and your immediate next steps is possible with our career advisors.
